Federal regulations, limit the number of times a student may repeat a previously passed course and receive financial aid for that course. Ineligible repeated courses will be excluded from counting in the student’s enrollment status for financial aid purposes.
- A student may receive aid when repeating a course that was previously failed (received a 0.0); regardless of the number of times the course was attempted and failed.

- If a student retakes a course that is not aid eligible, a recalculation of aid is performed to exclude the credits for the repeated course.

All repeated courses affect financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). A repeated course, along with the original attempt, must be counted as attempted credit hours. All grades count for SAP and all hours attempted and earned count as well.
The following examples further illustrate this repeated coursework policy:
Example 1
Jaclyn takes ENGL 1102 in the Fall 2021 semester. She earns a D grade and 3 credits for the course. She retakes the course in Spring 2022. For her repeat class, she earns an F grade and zero credits. For Fall Semester 2022, she decides to take the course for a third time. The chart below displays her financial aid eligibility.

For Summer Semester 2022, she decides to take the course for a third time. In Summer 2022, she earns a D grade and 3 credits for the course. Jaclyn enrolls in HST 2111 again in Fall Semester 2022. Note: If a student withdraws from a repeat of a previously passed course, the withdrawn attempt will not count as the one allowable repeat.

Jaclyn can receive financial aid when repeating a course an infinite number of times if all previous attempts were failures, as long as those failures are graded courses. The chart below displays her financial aid eligibility.
