Founded in 1890, SSU is the first public historically Black college and university (HBCU) in Georgia and the first institution of higher learning in the city of Savannah. With a total enrollment of 3,208 students, our community is close-knit yet globally connected. Most Tigers come from across the state of Georgia, with growing numbers from Florida, the Carolinas, Alabama, Tennessee, and beyond – including international students from around the world.
