Matthew H. Hudson, a fall 2024 civil engineering technology graduate, was selected as the Engineering Technology Student of the Year by Engineering Georgia magazine for its March/April 2025 issue, marking the 10th anniversary of the magazine. The awards celebrate Georgia’s engineering industry, its individuals, and milestones.

Hudson, a former SSU Navy ROTC Midshipman who was selected as one of 15 finalists nationwide for the Navy Federal Credit Union ROTC All-American Scholarship Program, served as the commanding officer of the SSU’s NRTOC unit and was involved in multiple campus and community organizations. Graduating with a near-perfect 3.91 GPA, Hudson told the Savannah Tribune that “leadership is mainly about service, because a leader is defined by not what they get, but what they give.”

A member of the SSU Honors Program, Hudson was commissioned into the U.S. Navy on SSU commencement day on December 13, 2024. His first duty assignment was at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in South Carolina.
