The Library embraces Savannah State University’s mission to educate diverse learners across coastal Georgia and beyond by providing access to scholarly information, innovative resources, and a learning environment that supports rigorous teaching, high-impact research, critical thinking, and student success.

Asa H. Gordon Library will equip students, faculty, and staff to meet the complex information challenges of the 21st century and strive to be the heart of Savannah State University’s academic, research, and intellectual culture.

• Offer a varied, authoritative and up-to-date collection of materials, resources, and equipment adequate to support the educational, research, and public service mission and the technological needs of the library and its users.
• Facilitate resource sharing by establishing and maintaining cooperative, reciprocal relationships with other libraries.
• Ensure high quality service, consultation, reference, and instructional programs that will facilitate information literacy and academic success, and encourage lifelong learning which will enhance the image of the library and the institution.
• Recruit and maintain a staff sufficient in size, quality, and training to meet the needs of its users.
• Motivate library staff to high levels of achievement through continuing education, personal development and skill enhancement.
• Provide a well planned and secure library facility with adequate space, conducive to study and research.
• Develop a budget that is appropriate to the mission of the institution and library.
• Ensure the preservation and availability of official records and other materials that document the history of Savannah State University.
