International Students
Your transcripts must have a foreign course-by-course credential evaluation by WES or an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES).
The evaluation must be sent directly from the agency to the SSU Admissions Office.
Find a full list of NACES members.
Transfer Credit
Transfer credit evaluation is completed by the Registrar’s office. Evaluations can take 2-4 weeks, and timeframes can vary due to the volume of transfer admission applications. You will be notified once your evaluation has been completed.
You should not assume that you will receive credit for all courses you took at your previous institutions. Transfer credit is determined by us on a course-by-case basis.
Check the Savannah State University Credit Equivalency Chart to see which courses may transfer to Savannah State.
DISCLAIMER: This report is for reference only. SSU course equivalents are subject to change upon official evaluation by the SSU Registrar’s office. This report is an unofficial listing of courses that has been reviewed by the Registrar’s office. It does not take the place of an official transfer evaluation.
1000-2000 level courses completed at technical institutions or community colleges will not be reviewed for 3000-4000 level courses at SSU.
Credit is converted to semester hour equivalents. To convert quarter hours to semester hours, multiply the quarter hour by 0.667.
Categories of Transfer Credit
- Direct Equivalents: Courses taken at prior institutions that have a direct match to courses offered at SSU. These courses would need to be equivalent in content (course material) and credit hour value.
- Elective Courses: Courses taken at prior institutions that do not have a direct match to a course we offer at SSU or a course that requires departmental review (i.e. upper-level courses). These courses are listed as ELEC as their subject.
- Non-Transferable Courses: These courses are few, but do not fit within the other categories. Examples are:
- Remedial/learning support courses that are reviewed as less than college level at SSU.
- Nursing or health science specific courses.
- Occupational program courses (culinary, cosmetology, welding, etc).
- Courses belonging to a diploma or certificate program
Less Than 30 Credit Hours
If you have fewer than 30 transferable semester hours or 45 transferable quarter hours, you will be considered a Freshmen-Transfer student. In addition to the requirements listed above, you may also need to submit SAT or ACT scores and an official high school transcript. These requirements will be added to your document checklist upon review of your application.
Revaluation for Direct Equivalency
Any undergraduate student who would like to request a re-evaluation of an elective transfer credit must submit the following items to [email protected]:
- Full Name
- Student ID Number
- Institution Information
- Course Syllabus
Please Note: A re-evaluation request should only be submitted if a student is requesting that a transfer course equivalency be changed. A student wishing to substitute a transfer course for a degree program requirement should submit a Course Substitution Form with the assistance of their academic advisor.
Departmental decisions on course equivalents are final. There is no appeal beyond the departmental level.
