Eligibility at SSU
Student Eligibility
- A student must be enrolled in and physically attending a participating eligible public or private high school in Georgia or an eligible participating home study program in Georgia.
- A student must be approved, by the participating high school or home study program at which he or she is enrolled, to participate in dual enrollment.
- A student must complete the admission process and be accepted by Savannah State University.
- Prior to participating in Dual Enrollment, as part of the application process, the student and student’s parent/guardian must complete the Student Participation Agreement (SPA).
- A student must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- All postsecondary coursework must be completed prior to high school graduation or home study completion in order to receive Dual Enrollment credit and funding.
- A student must meet federal Selective Service registration requirements, per Georgia state law. The requirement to register applies to males who were born on or after January 1, 1960, are at least 18, are citizens or eligible non-citizens who came to the United States prior to age 26

Grade Level Requirements
11th & 12th Graders
- Students who have completed 10th grade may take any approved Dual Enrollment courses listed on the Course Directory at SSU.
10th Graders
- Eligible students who have a minimum SAT score of 1200 or minimum ACT composite score of 26 in a single national test administration, may enroll in any approved courses listed on the Course Directory at SSU.
Age Limit
- Students must be less than twenty-two (22) years of age on the start date of the postsecondary term of enrollment for which funding is sought.
- Students who reach twenty-two (22) years of age during the postsecondary term, may complete the term.
Length of Eligibility
- A student’s length of eligibility concludes at the end of the term in which the one of the following has occurred. The student has:
- Reached the Age limit or
- Reached the Funding Cap or
- Received a high school diploma, a General Education Development (GED) diploma or completed a Home Study program.
Minimum High School GPA
3.0
Your High School GPA is calculated by the Office of Admissions using the 17 Required High School Curriculum courses. You must be on track to complete these required courses by the time you graduate from high school.

SSU accepts both the SAT and ACT test.

Dual Enrollment Funding
- Dual Enrollment Funding is available to any 10th, 11th, and 12th grade high school scholar taking core academic courses at eligible public, private and for-profit colleges and universities. Successful completion of the 10th grade is required.
- 9th grade high school students are ineligible to participate in the Dual Enrollment Funding program.
- Beginning in the Summer 2020 term, scholars are limited to taking a total of 30 Dual Enrollment credit hours and are limited to taking a total of 15 credit hours per semester.
- Scholars seeking to complete the Associate of Arts, Core or Associate of Science, Core degree pathway are required to complete a total of 60 credit hours. 30 credit hours are state funded. The additional 30 credit hours are Non-State Funded. Associate degree seeking scholars must have prior approval before enrolling in more than 15 credit hours per semester to fulfill the 60 credit hours Associate degree requirement.
- Beginning in the Summer 2020 term, scholars are limited to taking 30 Dual Enrollment Funding hours and limited to taking a total of 15 credit hours per semester. All attempted hours are calculated at all institutions where Dual Enrollment Funding was used, including attempted hours completed at Savannah State University.

Course Retake and Withdrawals
A student may not receive funding to retake or repeat a course. Scholars seeking to repeat or retake a course must self-pay for the course. Payment is due according to the university’s academic calendar, payment deadline, and prior to the start of classes.
- Scholars withdrawing from 2 or more courses are ineligible to receive program funding.

How To Apply:
- Submit an undergraduate application at Future Tiger and pay the $20 App Fee (Non-Refundable).
- Have your guidance counselor send us your official high school transcript. Find out more about sending high school transcripts below.
- Send official copies of your SAT/ACT score reports.
- Send official AP or IB exam score reports.
- Submit a Dual Enrollment Participation Agreement.
- Send official college transcripts from any other previously attended colleges and universities. Students who participated in another dual enrollment program have an official transcript on file with the college or university that provided the coursework. - Upload your Verification of Lawful Presence to verify your legal name and qualify for in-state tuition.
- Submit a complete Certificate of Immunization form to [email protected].
- Check your application status to make sure we’ve received all of your documentation.
- Once you’ve been accepted, confirm your enrollment with the Admissions office.
- Sign up for New Student Orientation.

High School Transcripts
As part of the application process, all first-year applicants must request that their high school send their transcript directly to Savannah State University. If you are currently still enrolled in high school, you may send an in-progress transcript with the assistance of your school counselor to complete your application for admission. Savannah State University accepts mailed, faxed, emailed, or e-transcripts that come directly from the high school. To process transcripts, we will recalculate your GPA based on the Required High School Curriculum, so it may appear lower than your originally anticipated GPA.

Savannah State University grants college credit for the following exam types:
- Advanced Placement Program (AP)
- International Baccalaureate Program (IB)
- College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
- DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Tests)

Lawful Presence Documentation
In accordance with Board of Regents Policy 4.3.4, applicants who are accepted for admission or readmission to Savannah State University are required to provide validation of their lawful presence in the United States.
Students may submit a copy of one of the following:
- Original or Certified U.S. Birth Certificate
- Current U.S.. Passport Book or U.S. Passport Card
- Current Real ID GA* Driver’s License or State-Issued ID (cards that are Limited Term, temporary, or are not Real ID compliant cannot be accepted)
- Current GA Voter ID Card
- Current U.S.. Lawful Permanent Resident Card
- U.S.Certificate of Birth Abroad issue by Dept. of State (DS-1350)
- U.S. Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240)
- U.S. Certificate of Citizenship (USCIS form N-560 or N-561)
- U.S. Certificate of Naturalization (USCIS form N-550 or N-570)
- Military ID cards may be accepted when presented in person (copies cannot be accepted) and the student is the servicemember (dependent cards cannot be accepted).
Students who seek in-state for tuition must also submit documentation that proves their residency in the state of Georgia. Your Real ID Georgia driver’s license or state ID card can satisfy both of these requirements.
SSU Dual Enrollment Program Checklist
- All interested 10th, 11th, and 12th grade high school scholars interested in participating in Dual Enrollment at Savannah State University must first meet with your high school counselor.
- All interested 10th, 11th, and 12th grade high school scholars must meet the 3.0 GPA requirement in all core academic courses and eligibility requirements to receive state funding.
- Confirm with your high school counselor that your ACT/SAT and Next Gen ACCUPLACER test results are sent to Savannah State University. If you have not met the minimum test requirements, contact your high school counselor.
- Log onto www.GAfutures.org, create an account, and fully complete the online Dual Enrollment Funding Application.
- Request an official academic transcript from your high school Registrar or Records Specialist, and send transcript and immunization records to Savannah State University Office of Admissions.
- Apply to Savannah State University at Future Tiger; specify your intent to become a Dual Enrolled student and have your school counselor help you submit documents, such as your high school transcript and test scores.
- Once you have been accepted to Savannah State University, it is your responsibility to provide proof of your acceptance and eligibility to your high school counselor.
- Meet with High School Counselor to select your approved Dual Enrollment courses from the Georgia Futures Approved Course List for Savannah State University. This step is critical as it ensures your classes are listed on the Georgia Futures Approved Course List for Savannah State University.
- Students are responsible for self-paying for tuition and fees for all unapproved courses. ALL DE students are required to pay lab and technology fees and all additional fees required for the success of the course according to deadlines implemented by the University Student Academic Calendar.
- For list of Approved Courses go to: Savannah State University Course Directory. Students are responsible for self-paying for unapproved courses. Students will receive a bill for tuition and fees for all unapproved courses. ALL DE students are required to pay lab and technology fees and all additional fees required for the success of the course according to deadlines implemented by the University Student Academic Calendar.
- ALL college course schedule changes must be authorized by the high school counselor, parent/guardian, and Academic Advisor. Failure to select approved courses, will result in students self-paying for tuition and fees.
- Students must complete the Legal Name Verification form and Lawful Presence Forms prior to registering for classes.
- Students are encouraged to complete the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA Waiver) prior to enrolling in courses.
