CWPR Mission
The mission of the CWPR is to enhance the academic performance and quality of life through the personal development of the women at Savannah State. CWPR promotes an understanding among Savannah State’s diverse community of men and women by fostering a more supportive and inclusive campus environment.

CWPR Objectives
The objectives of the CWPR are to:

• Advocate for women students and to bring to the attention of the campus community the issues and problems of women students and other conditions which impede academic and personal growth.
• Inform the campus community and individual students about women’s issues, programs and services for women, and provide resources and materials about women.
• Educate through programs for and about women and women’s issues to include violence against women, women of color issues, body image, and other relevant topics.
• Serve women and individual students who seek help at the CWPR or refer to appropriate departments or community agencies.
• Collaborate with student organizations, campus units and departments, and community groups to coordinate empowering educational programs, outreach awareness campaigns and other initiatives that support the mission of the CWPR.

The CWPR was founded in 2013 to support, educate, and empower women in the full attainment of their intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual goals through a wide variety of services and programs.

Body image is defined as an individual’s concept of physical appearance established by self-observation and by noting the reaction of others. The committee on positive body image encourages women of SSU to celebrate their bodies and reject the narrow beauty ideals endorsed in the media. In addition, it provides students of all genders the opportunity to examine their perceptions of body image and participate in discussions about body image issues on-campus. The core focus of the committee on positive body image is to challenge the message that a woman’s value is best measured through her willingness and ability to embody current beauty standards.
