While there will be no Grand Festival Day this year, the Savannah Black Heritage Festival continues through a vibrant series of events.  We invite the community to engage in a series of thoughtfully curated events taking place throughout the city as we celebrate the tapestry of us. All events are free and open to the public.

    Savannah Black Heritage Festival Mission

The Savannah Black Heritage Festival (SBHF) is one of the many ethnic cultural arts events sponsored annually by the City of Savannah’s (GA) Department of Cultural Resources. The focus of the festival is to present performances, exhibits and activities that attract a broad cross-section of age, socio-economic and ethnically diverse residents in Savannah and its outlying areas as well as visiting tourists.
    The Tapestry of Us

    The Tapestry of Us

“The Tapestry of Us” celebrates the vibrant threads that weave together the African American experience in Savannah and beyond. This theme honors the stories, traditions, artistry, and resilience that collectively shape our community. Like a tapestry, each contribution—past, present, and emerging—creates a rich, interconnected legacy. The Savannah Black Heritage Festival invites all to reflect on, uplift, and rejoice in the diverse fibers that bind us together.
    The Inspiration for the Logo

    The Inspiration for the Logo

The Savannah Black Heritage Festival logo gathered inspiration from the first quilt used in the Underground Railroad quilt code. The "monkey wrench" pattern is a symbol of freedom and known as the first quilt in the quilt code system. The meaning signified it was time to gather all necessary supplies and prepare for your journey to freedom.
