Katelyn Green, a graduate of Rutland High School in Macon, Ga., received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. During her time at SSU, she served as president of the Student Government Association (SGA) from 2024 to 2025, representing a diverse student body of more than 3,000. During her tenure as SGA president, she organized initiatives that strengthened student engagement on campus. She successfully coordinated a national voter registration day in partnership with Black Voters Matter and When We All Vote, helping to ensure that hundreds of students were registered to vote.
As the SGA president, it fell on her to lead the student body through a series of inclement weather events, including a hurricane. During those times of crisis, she managed to maintain a clear line of communication between her SGA team, university leadership, and the student body.
In 2024, she introduced former Vice President Kamala Harris at a rally in Savannah with great poise and professionalism. Her speech, delivered on a national stage, carried a message of unity and engagement that spoke to Savannah and the nation.
As a strong advocate for community outreach, Green dedicated more than 200 hours to uplift students and promote wellness and empowerment on campus. She served as a peer mentor and coach to many younger students through the university’s Learning Commons Center. She collaborated with Dining Services on campus to launch a reusable to-go tray program, an initiative that reflected both her commitment to sustainability and her ability to enact meaningful, lasting change.
Green served as a member and officer in the Student Orientation Leaders organization, a select group of students who dedicate a full academic year as mentors to the incoming freshman class. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Sisters Striving for Excellence, Inc.
Her academic achievements included being on the Dean’s List from 2021-2024 and being the recipient of the 2024 American Chemical Society Undergraduate Award in Organic Chemistry.
“I have set myself up for greatness, and I cannot wait to show the world what Savannah State University has taught me,” Green said.
