SSU’s McMichael to Moderate Gen Z Panel Discussion at NNPA Conference

Nearly 300 African American Newspaper Publishers from across the country will converge on the city of Savannah as The Savannah Tribune hosts the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) Annual Conference from June 25-28, 2025.

Savannah Tribune NNPA The conference will be held at the J. W. Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District and will celebrate 198 Years of the Black Press and the 150th Anniversary of The Savannah Tribune.

On Thursday, June 26, at 10 a.m. Kareem McMichael, advisor for Savannah State University’s student newspaper, The Tiger’s Roar, will moderate the panel “GenZ, Gen Alpha: Innovation, Social Media, AI.”

Young media experts will delve into the critical topic of engaging Gen Z and Gen Alpha with factual information, exploring the evolving landscape of media driven by innovations in social media and AI. They will examine how digital newspapers can effectively guide these generations toward credible sources. The panelists will also tackle crucial ethical considerations in the media and address the historical whitewashing of Black history.

The panelists are Abigail Gregory, 2025 Visual Arts graduate of Savannah Arts Academy, DaNiesha Bell, NNPA social media, Totally Randie, Media Mondays and Brandy Simpkins, founder of Brandywine Public Relations.
