SSU STEM Students Showcase Research at Posters at Georgia State Capitol

March 11, 2025
Three Savannah State University students made a strong impression at the recent Posters at the Capitol event, proudly representing SSU in the Georgia Capitol.

Marae’ Woodson and T’kae Adekunle, senior Biology majors, were joined by Destini Bostic, junior Computer Science Technology major, during the research poster exhibit in the Georgia Capitol.

Woodson’s poster presented information on her research on potential molecular targets for diet induced obesity in early stages of pancreatic carcinogenesis in mice. Adekunle presented her research on mosquitofish prey preference in a predator-prey/host parasite system. Bostic presented her analysis of stock market behavior of the renewable energy sector by Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) in neural networks. The SSU students were among 40 students from across the state representing diverse fields of academic scholarship.

“Opportunities for our students to share their research with the public are vital for their professional development. It is important for scientists to not only be able to speak to peers within their professions, but also to the general public. The broader SSU student body will share their scholarly works with the community on April 1st at the Annual Research Conference. ”

The Georgia Undergraduate Research Collective organized the Posters at the Capitol event on February 25 in the Capitol’s beautiful rotunda. The event highlighted undergraduates excelling in research. In previous years, this event has successfully provided a platform for students to demonstrate the significance and influence of undergraduate research to Georgia’s constituents, state officials, and policymakers. It is an opportunity for students to engage with influential community leaders and share their research findings on a public stage. (Credit: gcsu.edu).
