
This prestigious national honor recognizes Dr. Cunningham Aites for her exemplary leadership in teaching, scholarship, and service, as well as her unwavering dedication to advancing student success and academic excellence. As the endowed chairholder, Dr. Cunningham Aites will spearhead academic initiatives, mentor students in research and professional development, and lead efforts that integrate artificial intelligence (AI) in education. She will also serve as an ambassador for the values and legacy of Dr. Thelma Thomas Daley, a revered educator, counselor, and champion for equity in education.

Dr. Cunningham Aites brings more than two decades of experience in STEM education, engineering technology education, workforce development, and interdisciplinary program design. Since joining Savannah State University in 2013, she has served as Professor of Engineering Technology Education and as Interim Department Chair. As Associate Dean, she works closely with faculty, students, and community stakeholders to strengthen educator preparation and foster innovative, student-centered learning environments.
A national leader in Career and Technical Education (CTE) and STEM pipeline development, Dr. Cunningham Aites holds a Ph.D. in Workforce Education and Training Development from the Pennsylvania State University and a B.S. and M.S. degrees in Technology Education from North Carolina A&T State University, where she was a proud Ronald McNair Scholar.
