Dr. Otilia Iancu, chair of Savannah State University’s Department of Political Science and Public Affairs and professor of public administration, was recently awarded the Liberty Bell Award by the Savannah Bar Association — a recognition honoring individuals who promote civic engagement, service and leadership within the community.
“I was truly humbled and honestly surprised by the recognition,” said Iancu.
The award announcement was made by Judge Chris Middleton, while the introduction was given by Chatham County Commissioner Aaron “Adot” Whitely, a graduate of SSU’s Master of Public Administration program and former student of Iancu.
Known for her commitment to mentoring future public servants and leaders, Iancu dedicated the recognition to APLES students, sharing that they continue to inspire her “to do something meaningful and positive.”
