We are excited to be a part of the 2025 Hispanic Heritage Month, a national celebration of Hispanic history and culture running from September 15 to October 15.

Black in Latin America, a four-part series on the influence of African descent on Latin America, is the 11th production from renowned Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr. This session will explore the episode Mexico and Peru: The Black Grandma in the Closet. Savannah State’s own Dr. Pedro Rivera, Associate Professor and Chair of Social and Behavioral Sciences, will host the viewing and lead a discussion about the large numbers of Black people that slavery brought to these countries in the 16th and 17th centuries and the cultures their descendants have established.
