During Homecoming, Savannah State will honor John Wesley McGlockton, a 1935 graduate, former Tiger student-athlete and longtime leader of the Savannah State National Alumni Association, with the hanging of his photo inside the campus building that bears his name.
A Savannah native, McGlockton graduated from Savannah State College in 1935 with a degree in Agriculture. During his time as a student, he competed in multiple sports and became a standout member of the football team. His commitment to SSU continued long after graduation, including years of service as president of the Savannah State National Alumni Association and recognition in the SSU Athletics Hall of Fame.
Today, the building bearing his name sits at the heart of SSU Athletics and serves as home to the university’s NROTC program. The Homecoming photo hanging will add another piece of his story to that space, giving generations of Tigers who pass through McGlockton Hall the opportunity to know the man behind the name.
A moment to remember our history, honor a Tiger legacy and make sure the stories behind the names on our campus continue to be told.
