How To Apply

Applicant will not be evaluated for admissions until all supporting documents are received. In order to completely process an application, applicant must:

1. Complete an online graduate school application and verify that the name and address listed are correct.
2. Send one official copy of transcript from each prior institution attended. Official copies must come directly from prior institution or via systems like Parchment. Applicants are not able to upload copies of transcripts into the application portal.
3. Submit two letters of recommendation into the application portal.
4. If applicable, request an official copy of test scores via the testing agency and have them sent to Savannah State University. SSU’s university code is 5609.
5. Submit a copy of Statement of Purpose.
6. Submit a copy of resume.
7. Submit any of the documents listed under “Graduate Checklist” for Verification of Lawful Presence/Legal Name (i.e. copy of driver’s license, U.S. Passport, original birth certificate)
8. Submit a copy of Certificate of Immunization. A blank form can be completed and signed by county health office or primary care physician.
9. Submit proof of health insurance.

Returning Users: Login in using ID and PIN
Select Graduate Application, complete application as instructed below.

New students: click First time user account creation (under the Login button)
New students will create a login ID and PIN

• Click Login
• Chose Application Type: Graduate Studies
• Choose Admission Term
• Enter Name, click Fill Out Application
• Click on Name to verify information, then continue
• Complete address and personal information, then continue
• Choose planned Course of Study, then continue
• Enter Previous College information, then continue (look up College School Code by selecting Lookup College Code). List all prior colleges.
• Enter residency information, then continue
• Enter test scores, then continue (GMAT and GRE are the only options)
• Click Application Is Complete
• Agree to Terms

After completion, student will receive:

“Thank you for submitting your application to the Office of Graduate Studies. For your convenience, your login number is located on the bottom of this page. Please write down this number along with the pin you created and keep it in a safe place. We have recorded the following information on you: Firstname Lastname xxx Street City State XXXXX.”

Required Documents for Admissions
To be considered eligible to be admitted into Graduate Programs, applicants must submit:

• Completed Online Application
• Official Transcript*
• Statement of Purpose/Essay
• Resume/Curriculum Vitae
• Two (2) Letters of Recommendation
• GRE/GMAT Scores (if applicable)**
• Verification of Lawful Presence/Legal Name****

Required Documents prior to Enrolling
The following documents must be submitted prior to enrolling in the Graduate Program.

• Immunization Certificate
• Proof of Health Insurance

*Official Transcripts must be sent directly from college/university or through digital storefronts such as Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse. Uploaded copy of transcript from applicant will not be accepted.

**GRE/GMAT scores are required if undergraduate GPA is below 2.5 for MBA, MPA and MS Marine Science. GRE is required for MSW if undergraduate GPA is below a 2.8

***Verification of Lawful Presence: In accordance with Board of Regents Policy 4.3.4, applicants who are accepted for admission or readmission to Savannah State University and seek to be classified as in-state for tuition purposes are required to provide validation of their lawful presence in the U.S. Proof may include a copy of current driver’s license or State of Georgia ID, original certified birth certificate, a current U.S. Passport, valid Permanent Resident Card, and others. *Official Transcripts must be sent directly from college/university or through digital storefronts such as Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse. If earned college credits are outside of the U.S., transcripts must be professionally evaluated and include GPA calculations. Visit www.naces.org/members for list of approved transcript evaluators.
