Student Success
TRIO & GEAR UP Programs
Explore Savannah State University’s federally funded TRIO and GEAR UP programs, including Student Support Services, Educational Talent Search, and Upward Bound. These initiatives provide mentorship, academic support, and college preparation resources for middle school, high school, and college students to help unlock their full potential and achieve educational success.
GEAR UP
Savannah State University Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is funded to serve 500 students at Beach High School . GEAR UP is unique from other federal pre-college programs because it requires in-kind commitment from local community partners.
Educational Talent Search
The primary goal of Talent Search is to offer a continuum of activities, information and services to enable low-income/first generation college bound students (6th – 12th grade) with academic ability to realize their potential for education and growth beyond high school.
Student Support Services
Student Support Services (SSS) is one of three education centered “War on Poverty” legislations proposed under the President Lyndon B. Johnson Administration and ratified into law by the U.S. Congress between 1964 and 1968, in response to a national poverty rate that hovered around 19 percent.
Upward Bound
The Upward Bound Program at Savannah State University (SSU) is designed to provide fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits.
