Work-Based Learning & Internships
Savannah State University provides opportunities for students to enhance their education through hands-on, career-related work experiences. These programs bridge classroom learning with real-world applications, preparing students for meaningful careers and strengthening their value as employees upon graduation.
How to Get Started
1. Complete the application for the program.
2. Schedule an appointment with the Work-Based Learning Coordinator.
3. Prepare a resume for placement in the employer database.
Internship Opportunities
Internships offer students the chance to apply academic training in professional settings for a semester. Opportunities may include:
- Salaried, volunteer, or stipend-based positions.
- Credit or non-credit options.
- Positions in business, government, or non-profit organizations nationwide.
Internships are typically short-term (one semester) and help students build skills, networks, and professional experience.
Work-Based Learning Plans
SSU offers flexible work-based learning plans that integrate academic schedules with professional experience:
Rotate full-time work with full-time academic semesters.
Combine part-time work (20+ hours per week) with part-time academic study, typically in the Savannah/Chatham County region.
These opportunities provide students with deeper, long-term exposure to their chosen fields, often spanning two or more semesters.
Program Requirements
To participate in work-based learning programs, students must:
- Be enrolled full-time at SSU.
- Have completed at least 30 semester hours.
- Declare a major and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher (some employers may require a higher GPA).
- Commit to at least two work semesters for long-term plans.
Employer Guidelines
Employers are encouraged to offer career-related roles that provide practical experience aligned with the student’s major or field of interest. Contact SSU’s Work-Based Learning office to connect with qualified students and access resumes and transcripts.
