Political Science and Public Administration

The Department of Political Science and Public Affairs (DPSPA) is the home for undergraduate programs in political science and homeland security and emergency management (HSEM)

Whether studying political science, homeland security and emergency management, or public administration, the Department of Political Science and Public Affairs (DPSPA) programs prepare students for careers in government, nonprofit organizations, law, and international institutions.  Students who have earned their bachelor’s degree can continue their education at SSU with the master’s degree in public administration that prepares students to work effectively as managers and leaders in public service organizations.

Political Science

The political science program offers courses on the African-American political experience, comparative politics, international relations, the American judicial system, research methods, political theory, and constitutional law. Students will be prepared for careers in government, social research and political relations.

Homeland Security

The Savannah State University (SSU) Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) program is the first in the nation at a historically Black college or university (HBCU) and the first bachelor’s degree program in homeland security and/or emergency management in the state of Georgia and the only program in the region.

Public Administration (MPA)

Academic rigor with real-world application, equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to address complex public issues. With a focus on leadership, policy analysis, and ethical decision-making, our MPA graduates are prepared to make a positive impact in government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and the community at large.
