The Deans’ Council consists of the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and Associate Provost/Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Deans of the degree granting units, the Director of the Library, the Director of the Center for Academic Success, and the Associate Vice President for Sponsored Research Administration.

In recent years, many have raised questions about the cost and mission of public higher education. New forms of instruction, technology, and student learning are all challenging long-held views of public higher education. Public higher education has traditionally represented a path to advancement for both states and their citizens. To be successful, institutions must maintain both cost affordability and academic quality while preparing graduates for the workforce and to be productive members of their communities – the College 2025 Initiative, which Chancellor Wrigley launched in May 2017, is creating a map to address those concerns and offer real solutions based on the nationally acclaimed research by Dr. Tristan Denley.

The New Programs and Curriculum Committee (NPCC) consists of six Faculty Members Appointed by the Senate, the VP of Academic Affairs (Chair), the Registrar, the deans of degree granting units, the Director for Graduate Studies, the Director for the Center for Academic Success, a representative from the Library, and the SACS Accreditation Liaison as a non-voting member.

Savannah State University supports a safe learning environment for all students, faculty, staff and campus visitors. The university prohibits sex discrimination, including sexual misconduct of any kind, and enforces a Sexual Misconduct Policy. The policy applies to all students, employees and third parties, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Any form of sexual misconduct, including but not limited to sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual harassment and stalking, will not be tolerated on the Savannah State University campus. The university encourages members of the campus community to report sexual misconduct immediately and has several tools available to ensure the process is fair, prompt and confidential.

At Savannah State University, the provisions of the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act protect educational records of students, confidential financial statements of parents, and confidential recommendations for employment and student admission.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 was designed to protect the privacy of educational records, to establish students’ rights to inspect and review their records, and to provide guidelines for correcting inaccurate or misleading data through informal and formal hearings. Savannah State is in full compliance and informs students of the Act annually.

Policy and procedures of the Act are explained in detail in the Savannah State University and Procedure Manual, which may be found in hard copy in all major offices at the University. The manual also provides a directory of the specific student educational records maintained. After observing the Savannah State procedures for challenging a record, a student has the right to file complaints with the Faculty Educational Rights and Privacy Act Office of alleged compliance failures.
