The Office of Graduate Studies provides opportunities for graduate students to enhance their academic journey through assistantships and employment. These roles offer valuable experience while helping students achieve their educational goals.
Graduate Assistantships
The Graduate Assistantship Program at Savannah State University is designed to promote the research and teaching responsibility of the university and to provide students with valuable professional development opportunities while he or she earns a degree. Therefore, the graduate assistantship involves the dual responsibilities of maintaining a satisfactory academic performance and of successfully performing the assigned teaching, research or other responsibilities.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a graduate assistantship, you must:
- Be admitted to a graduate program under the “regular” (not provisional) classification
- Hold a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0; an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 in your last 60 hours; or a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on 9 or more hours of your most recent graduate course work
- Must register and earn credit for a minimum of (9) semester hours of graduate course work leading to the degree each semester in which he or she holds the assistantship
- Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA to continue eligibility

Graduate assistants receive a stipend and a tuition waiver scholarship

The Graduate Student Employment Program at Savannah State University is designed to promote the research and teaching responsibility of the university and to provide students with valuable professional development opportunities while he or she earns a degree. Therefore, graduate student employment involves the dual responsibilities of maintaining a satisfactory academic performance and of successfully performing the assigned teaching, research, or other responsibilities.
