Student Orientation

New Student Orientation and Weekend of Welcome will help students and parents explore Savannah State’s academic and social life and assist with the transition to our campus. Workshops are scheduled to help with planning and ensuring academic success that focus on financial aid, registration, support services, and academic expectations. All new students, freshmen and transfer students, are required to attend Orientation and Welcome Weekend activities.

When a student begins college, the entire family is impacted, whether your student is living on campus or commuting from home. A major adjustment is required of your student. Learn ways to help your student make the adjustment to the demands of college life with relative ease.

Student Orientation Leaders

The Student Orientation Leader’s Association consists of upper-class students of SSU that assist with the orientation of new students to the campus community by helping them make the transition from high school to college. They provide services, contacts and referrals to help students enhance their college experience and deepen their commitment to scholarship. They serve as role models and provide an environment where school spirit and pride can be enhanced.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Student Orientation Leader’s Association is to support Savannah State University’s learning environment by providing peer mentoring to incoming freshmen, transfer, and international students during orientation and throughout the year. By orienting students to the campus community, appropriate role models, and resources, the Student Orientation Leader’s Association strives to enhance the college experiences of students and deepen their commitment to scholarship.

Membership
Membership consists of upper-class students that are chosen each spring semester through an application and interview process. Students must have a 2.5 GPA. Applications are available in April of each year in the Office of Student Programs & Organizations.
