Types of Aid
Exploring Your Financial Aid Options
Savannah State offers many options in each category. Programs are federal, state, and privately funded and may be based on financial need, merit, or a combination of both. Some types of aid are also non-need-based and designed to assist with the Expected Family Contribution.
Scholarships
Savannah State University students have an array of scholarship opportunities available to them for many majors, degrees and class levels.
Direct / Committee Awards
Savannah State University has two types of scholarships- direct awards and committee awards. Direct awards are based on your student questionnaire and student account.
Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is based on the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which is calculated by the Department of Education based on the information listed on the FAFSA form.
Grants
Grants are awards that are not repaid. Only undergraduates who have not previously received a bachelor’s degree are eligible.
Student Loans
A loan is money borrowed that must be repaid, with interest. Eligible students must be enrolled at least 6 credit hours to receive a federal loan.
Work-Study Program
Part-time employment on campus allows students to earn money to pay for educational expenses.

The '24-'25 Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Is Now Live!
The 2024–2025 FAFSA form is now available . You can complete the form to apply for financial aid to help pay for attendance at college between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025.

To qualify for financial aid from federal, state, and institutional programs, students must meet satisfactory academic progress (SAP) standards.
