What Comes Next After a Post-Baccalaureate Degree in Education

Earning a post-baccalaureate degree in education opens the door to a rewarding career in teaching, along with numerous career pathways in educational leadership, instructional design, and beyond. With this certification, you’ll have the skills and credentials needed to make an impact in a classroom, school, or district setting, and contribute to shaping the next generation.

Teaching Careers and Beyond
After completing this program and earning your teaching certification, you’ll be qualified to teach in your chosen subject area or grade level, whether it’s elementary, middle, or high school. Teachers remain highly sought-after, and in Georgia, for example, the demand for certified teachers in STEM, special education, and early childhood is growing, with an average of 4,000 teaching positions open each year across the state. Nationally, teaching careers are projected to grow 4% through 2031, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

As a certified teacher, you’ll be equipped to take on roles such as:

  • Elementary, Middle, or High School Teacher: Teachers at these levels guide student learning, inspire curiosity, and foster critical thinking. With opportunities for career advancement, many teachers go on to become department heads, curriculum coordinators, or school administrators.
  • Special Education Teacher: Educators certified in special education work with students with diverse learning needs, often in smaller group settings or one-on-one. This field is particularly rewarding and in high demand across the country.
  • ESOL Teacher: Teachers certified in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) are vital in today’s diverse classrooms, supporting language learners in achieving proficiency in English.

Broader Career Pathways and Advanced Opportunities
Your degree doesn’t limit you to the classroom. Many educators with teaching experience move into educational leadership roles. Within 5–10 years, some teachers pursue advanced certifications or degrees in educational administration, enabling them to step into roles like:
Instructional Coordinator: Oversee and refine school curricula, train teachers, and ensure best practices in teaching are met. The demand for instructional coordinators is projected to grow by 7% through 2031.
School Principal or Assistant Principal: School leadership roles offer experienced educators the chance to shape school culture, manage operations, and advocate for staff and students. Principals and administrators make an average annual salary of $98,000 according to the BLS, making it an attractive career goal.
