Faculty/Staff - COVID-19 Protocols (Updated

1/5/2022)

The following protocols will help streamline the necessary notifications and contact tracing if you have tested positive for COVID-19 OR have been in close contact (exposure) with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. If you have any questions, email ssucovid-19@savannahstate.edu

Tested Positive Vaccinated and Non-vaccinated

Protocols:

  1. Notify your Supervisor and CARES Team via email ssucovid-19@savannahstate.edu 
  1. Self-isolate for 5 full days (day 0 is the first day of symptoms or the date of the positive test). 
  1. Contact Human Resources, hr@savananahstate.edu, to submit documentation of positive test.
  1. Check with your Supervisor about telework If approved, the arrangements should be forwarded to HR. If you cannot telework, you should contact HR for other leave options. 
  1. Notify contacts of your illness and ask them to participate in contact tracing.
  1. You can exit isolation after 5 full days and a negative COVID-19 test. The CARES Team will contact you when it is time for you to schedule your COVID-19 test to exit isolation. You are required to test negative for COVID-19 before resuming normal campus activities. You must wear a well-fitting mask in public for 5 additional days (day 6 – day 10) after the negative test.
  1. Email your negative test results to the CARES Team ssucovid-19@savannahstate.edu. Upon review and approval, you will receive an email from the CARES Team clearing you to return to work. 
  1. The CARES Team will notify your supervisor and HR that you are cleared to return to work.

Contact (Exposure) Protocols:

  1. Notify your Supervisor and CARES Team via email ssucovid-19@savannahstate.edu. 
  1. Received all vaccine doses and booster. You do not need to quarantine, but must follow the basic preventative measures:

     

A. Wear a well-fitting mask around others for 10 days from date of exposure (close contact). The date of exposure (close contact) is considered day 0. Social distance, avoid crowds and wash your hands frequently.

B. Get tested at least 5 days after the exposure (close contact). If you test negative continue to wear a well-fitting mask around others for 5 additional days (day 6 – day 10) after negative test. If you test positive or develop COVID-19 symptoms, isolate from others and follow the isolation protocols in the section above.

  1. Received primary series of vaccine but not received booster shot and not-vaccinated: You must quarantine immediately for 5 full days (day 0 – day 5). If you do not develop symptoms, get tested at least 5 days after exposure (close contact).

A. If you test negative, you can exit quarantine, but you must continue to wear a well-fitting mask when around others and in public until 10 days after your exposure (close contact). You are required to test negative for COVID-19 before resuming normal campus activities.

B. If you test positive, you should isolate.  Follow isolation protocols in the section above.

  1. Monitor yourself for symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, muscle ache, runny nose, congestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of taste, loss of smell). Get tested immediately if you begin to have symptoms.
  1. The CARES Team will contact you when it is time for you to schedule your COVID-19 test to exit quarantine. You are required to test negative for COVID-19 before returning to work.
  1. Email your negative test results to the CARES Team ssucovid-19@savannahstate.edu. Upon review and approval, you will receive an email from the COVID-19 Team clearing you to return to work. 
  1. The CARES Team will notify your supervisor and HR that you are cleared to return to work.

Given the rapid changes associated with the spread of virus, SSU campus protocols are subject to change as guidance and information change.
