RESOURCES FOR COLLABORATING TEACHERS
Savannah State University's College of Education strives to produce graduates who embrace dynamic educational changes that encompass technological innovations, diversity, and global environments, and that they have the intellectual capacity to teach all children to be productive citizens in a global community. To this end, the College and its faculty believes in situating the learning of our teacher candidates in the context of real schools and real teachers. We rely heavily on our collaborating teachers, professional practice partners, and clinical instructors to provide authentic teaching and learning experiences for our students.
BECOMING A COLLABORATING TEACHER
We are looking for the highest caliber collaborating teachers to host and support our teacher candidates in the field to produce the highest caliber next generation of educators possible.
Below are minimum criteria for becoming a collaborating teacher:
- Three or more years of successful teaching experience
- Certification in the area the intern is pursuing (i.e., Engineering Technology Education P-12)
- Completion of Clinical Educator Training
- Principal recommendation as effective or highly effective
- A desire to mentor adult learners and some understanding of Adult Learning Theory
- Additional criteria may be desired from specific preparation programs

CHALK & WIRE INSTRUCTIONS FOR COOPERATING TEACHERS
Chalk & Wire is a cloud-based, online e-portfolio system that allows students to engage in continuous improvement by acting on meaningful feedback in a real-time environment.
Cooperating Teachers assigned SSU teacher candidates will be given a guest user account to complete required surveys, assessments, time logs, dispositions, and summative assessments throughout the semester.
