How do I find out who my advisor is?
Your advisor is assigned once you complete your enrollment confirmation with admissions and register for your orientation session. The CSS case manager will receive your information from admissions upon completion of this and will assign you to an advisor. That advisor will reach out to you via your campus email to schedule a time for the two of you to connect. As a continuing student, you can always find out who your advisor is by logging into EAB Navigate.
How can I connect with my advisor?
All advisors are located in Hubert A Technology building. You can schedule a meeting with your advisor using EAB Navigate! You can find their contact information to email or call them on our website under professional advisors.
How do I register for classes?
Your first term at SSU, your advisor will register you for classes. You will connect with them and together build a schedule within your program for at least 15 credit hours. After your first term, during the advisement period for the term, you will meet with your advisor and they will provide your with the list of classes, your registration pin and explain how to register in our PAWS portal.
What do I need to register for classes?
You log into your PAWS portal on the designated day when registration opens. You will need to have met wit your advisor, have your term registration pin. You need to make sure you have cleared up any account holds. You can see any holds in your PAWS account.
What does it mean that I have been waitlisted for a class?
This means you are on a list for an open seat. If another student registered for the course drops the class, then you will receive an email to your SSU email. You will have 24 hours to register for the course once you receive the email. You will need to have your registration pin to do so.
How many credit hours do I need to be considered full-time?
You need 12 hours to be considered full-time however it takes 15 credit hours each term to progress through the classifications (e.g. freshmen to sophomore). If you only register and pass 12 credit hours in the fall and spring, you only earn 24 credit hours but to be a sophomore you need 30 credit hours.
How do I schedule a meeting with a tutor?
You can log into your EAB Navigate. account and select, “schedule a meeting”.
Do I have to pay to meet with a tutor?
No, all costs are included in your tuition and fees.
What is the difference between a tutor, mentor and advisor?
A tutor will provide academic help on the content for your course. A mentor will help you find the best way to study or connect you to campus resources like joining a club or organization. An advisor will help you with registering for classes, connect with an instructor and make sure you stay on track to graduate.
What is a faculty mentor?
A faculty mentor is in your program of study. They can help with career exploration, internships or what classes to take for major electives in your program.
How do I get out of a class I am not doing well in?
You can only drop a class during the first week of classes. After this period passes, you can withdraw but there can be a financial penalty and even a GPA penalty depending on when you withdraw during the term. It is important to pay close attention to the academic calendar so you are aware of all deadlines. You can always ask your advisor for help.
