New Student Orientation (NSO)
Congratulations on your acceptance to Savannah State University! Orientation is the process that helps you settle into college life, and we are preparing a splendid program that will make your transition a success. At orientation be prepared to do the following:
- Log into your SSU email. You should get into the habit of logging into your emails twice per day (minimum): morning and night.
- Open your account on SSU’s RAFTR. This can be on your laptop, desktop or download the app on your phone. This is your social profile for all new SSU students.
- Log into your PAWS account and review the different aspects of self service: student account (registration, schedules, DegreeWorks, ect.), financial aid (awards, authorizations, ect), bursar (view/paying your bill, parking portal, ect). Please note that your Academic Advisor will register you for your first semester but you will need to be advised and get a registration pin for future semesters.
- Tour our show rooms in residence halls to visualize yourself in your housing assignment.
- Log into your D2L and get a feel for the virtual environment and your courses.
- Review your class schedule. You can adjust your schedule through the end of the first week of class. The first week is the late drop/add period. You will need to work with your Academic Advisor. Attendance in each class is mandatory during the first week of classes to remain registered. Please be sure to review each class syllabus for additional attendance requirements.
- Log into EAB Navigate. This is your advisement platform and connect with your assigned Academic Advisor.
- Get your student ID card.
- Get your parking permit.
- Complete the FAFSA for Aid Year 2023-2024.
- Complete a profile in ScholarshipUniverse to be eligible for internal SSU scholarships.
- Check your email for financial aid verification selection. There will be additional steps required if you are selected.
- Log into your PAWS account and accept your financial aid award and complete your financial aid Terms & Condition.
- Log into your FAFSA and complete your Loan Entrance Counseling and sign your MPN, for new students accepting loans this academic year.
- Log into your PAWS, review your student account balance, and make payment by our payment deadline of 5pm on Friday, July 21, 2023.
