GALILEO

GALILEO, a project funded by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, is a World Wide Web database, which offers access to over 200 databases, indexing thousands of periodicals and scholarly journals. Over 2000 of these journal titles are provided in full text. Other resources include encyclopedias, business directories, and government publications. GALILEO has both public and licensed databases. Access to the public databases is available to any user, but access to the licensed databases are limited to on campus use through authentication by machine IP, and off-campus use by password. Savannah State University students, faculty, and staff may obtain the password for off-campus access to GALILEO logging into their Library Account.

The following are steps required to get the password:

  1. Type your SSU identification number in the appropriate box.
  2. Enter your PIN and Last Name in the boxes provided. If you do not know your PIN, enter your barcode and last name, then click Get My PIN to have it emailed to your SSU email account.
  3. Click Logon to get to your account information.
  4. If this step fails, contact the Circulation Department to make sure you are in the library management system.
  5. The GALILEO Password will be listed on this page.

GALILEO passwords are changed every semester. According to the University System of Georgia, currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff should not supply their password to any other person. Passwords cannot be e-mailed to faculty, students, or library patrons by GALILEO. Passwords should not be posted on open web sites, printed in newsletters or postcards, or given out over the phone.
