Theron "Ike" Carter, Director

Mr. Theron A. Carter was born in Savannah, GA.  Also, Mr. Carter has a wide background in radio management and programming, and is a local expert on the history of African American music.  As president of the Coastal Jazz Association for over 10 years (1992-2002, 2005), Mr. Carter was responsible for planning the Annual Savannah Jazz Festival, and a series of Big Band concerts (4 per year) that were funded by the City of Savannah Cultural Affairs Department, as well as monthly jazz concerts sponsored by the Coastal Jazz Association. He also served as Chairman of the Savannah Black Heritage Festival for two years. He has coordinated educational outreach to local K-12 schools. In the early 1990s, he chaired the SSU Lyceum Committee, which brought cultural events to the students on campus.

Mr. Carter served two terms on both the Savannah Cultural Affairs Commission and the Chatham County Cultural Affairs Commission.  Serving as Director of WHCJ radio station for over 20 years, Mr. Carter is responsible for the day to day operations of the station and producing multiple weekly programs.  Furthermore, he is called on frequently to lecture to various audiences on the history and development of African American music. 

 

 

Grace Curry aka Lady Grace, Assistant Director

Grace Curry is originally from Savannah, GA, and attended college at the University of Georgia where she obtained a degree in Theatre. Grace began working at WHCJ in June 2002, and created the Alternative Soul Cafe a show that focuses on Alternative Soul, Spoken Word, conscious thought provoking Hip Hop and Rock Soul. The Alternative Soul Cafe airs on Sundays 11a.m. until 3 p.m. and Wednesdays 1 p.m. until 4 p.m., and a rebroadcast of the Wednesday show is aired on Mondays from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
